Displacement and Pigging of Pipelines
Pipelines need to be maintained. Anyone who waits too long in this regard only increases the likelihood of safety problems, production problems and increased costs in the long run. What needs to be looked at are:
- prevention: timely and regular checking procedures
- internal cleaning
- repair
In order for this maintenance work to be done it is usually necessary for the pipeline to be partially or completely emptied of any contents (displacement). These are then stored in a controlled manner. The emptying of the system is done by means of nitrogen combined with the use of so-called "pigs."
Which type of "pig" is employed for this purpose depends on the nature of the job. For drying pipes we use other types than those that are employed for displacement or internal scraping.
